My brother, his two sons, and I, are going on a 4-day, 365-mile bicycle odyssey starting on June 25, from Reno, Nevada to Mendocino, California on some of the most inaccessible forest roads in California with spectacular views including three major mountain passes. The ride starts in the high-desert plateau of Nevada and ends on the coastal California crags.

Training
Day 1 of a 2 day, 180 mile training ride on the White Pine Trail.
My brother Rob, his two sons Nate and Matt, and I committed to this ride in January and we have been in training mode ever since. I have ridden over 2,000 miles this year, which may seem adequate, but the long climbs, high elevation, and daily mileage of Reno - Mendocino have me wondering if I have trained sufficiently. Furthermore, the daily mileage will be demanding, ranging from 85 to 125 miles and we will be climbing over three major mountain passes.
Last weekend we took a long training ride from Grand Rapids to Cadillac on the White Pine Trail - a total distance of 180 miles, half of it on an unpaved surface. Despite the lack of elevation, it was a good training ride for us. I plan on riding 40 - 50 miles a day from now until the ride starts on June 25.
